Hello Rick or Gaetan,
can you tell me which of the engines in the BLW/ZT geep pack were only or mostly used for passenger service?
Thanks a lot!

If there was a steam generator in the short end it would probably have been mainly for passenger trains.
To identify if it had a steam generator, there would be a six inch or so round exhaust vent in the top of the short end.

Uli,
Passenger & Freight:
B&M GP7s*, GN GP7s, NYC (P&LE #5735, 5737), PRR #8552 &8553 and NH GP9s.
Freight only:
all the rest...
* The B&M GP7s did not have steam generators, but did have auxilliary lighting/heat (the 'bump' at the base of the long hood). They were used almost exclusively in commuter service out of Boston. _________________ Rick Franzosa - ZosaTrains

You pretty much hit the nail on the head about the B&M 'Commuter' Geeps, but they weren't exclusive. My dad has some old slides of them in freight duty around Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and also some standard passenger/mail service. But you are right, they were most commonly found in commuter service. One note about them though is that they were rebuilds done by B&M in the early 1960s/ late 1950s. Most of them were actually originally steam-generator equipped, but had said equipment removed when they were rebuilt. _________________ Thom |
