Hello Rick or Gaetan,

can you tell me which of the engines in the BLW/ZT geep pack were only or mostly used for passenger service?

Thanks a lot! Smile

If there was a steam generator in the short end it would probably have been mainly for passenger trains.

To identify if it had a steam generator, there would be a six inch or so round exhaust vent in the top of the short end.

Uli,

Passenger & Freight:
B&M GP7s*, GN GP7s, NYC (P&LE #5735, 5737), PRR #8552 &8553 and NH GP9s.

Freight only:
all the rest... Cool

* The B&M GP7s did not have steam generators, but did have auxilliary lighting/heat (the 'bump' at the base of the long hood). They were used almost exclusively in commuter service out of Boston.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head about the B&M 'Commuter' Geeps, but they weren't exclusive. My dad has some old slides of them in freight duty around Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and also some standard passenger/mail service. But you are right, they were most commonly found in commuter service. Smile One note about them though is that they were rebuilds done by B&M in the early 1960s/ late 1950s. Most of them were actually originally steam-generator equipped, but had said equipment removed when they were rebuilt.
