Has anyone run this consist on 3DTS Tehachapi II route. I can't seem to get the consist's speed higher than 30 MPH on the flatter track coming out of Bakersfield and it seems to run out of speed on the grade. Any ideas on what is happening?

Hi

I'm assuming the BLW_Daylight_E9 consist with an E9A-E7B-E9A set of power.

Yes, there are serious problems, very slippery and lots of wheelslip.

Try the following changes in all three E7 .eng files...

1 - Change the Adheasion line to "Adheasion ( 0.28 0.50 2.0 0 )"

2 - The E7 only has four powered axles so change the first NumWheels from 6 to 4 - "NumWheels ( 4 )"

3 - About 80% ("A") or 50% ("B") through the file find another NumWheels and change it to 4 - "NumWheels ( 4 )". This was the setting that made the biggest difference.

I tried with these settings near Bealville and was able to reach and maintain track speed at about 75% throttle. It would still slip if I push it but I think that's probably reasonable close with 6,000 horses pulling that train.

Waiting for comments...

Gary;
Outstanding! Works like a dream. Many, many thanks from a big Daylight fan. Was worried I would not be able to enjoy my favorite train. By the way, I only found 1 E7 .eng file.
Now I don't suppose you have a solution for the same problem with the PA2 units.

Thanks Gary.

I actually changed one of my PRR activities because 3 E7 couldn't handle a 13 car train on the NEC.

Good Morning

I'm glad you like the fix. I just hope it's not overpowered. I think it's should still be about right because I didn't touch the actual power settings. It certainly does accelerate better now but still will slip if you jump to Run5 too fast without sand.

I would think they are good candidates for the L&N sound set as well. Additionally, the modified throttle settings would probably give much more realistic startup acceleration with Run1 set at 6%.

Gaetan;
Should I install the update/patch from 09/22/07 even if I bought my 1955 Daylight pack within the past two weeks?

Hi

Check both Adheasion and NumWheels, the second NumWheels probably had more to do with the fix than the rest of the changes.

Also, these settings are for the six axle "E" units only. These setttings on a four axle "F" unit will give a unit that won't slip even at Run8 and 0MPH.

Gaetan;
I tried to unzip the 1955 Daylight update and it asked for a password. I tried both of the ones I use here (one to access 'members' and the other to access the 'forum') but neither would work. Is there a special password needed?

Gaetan;
Installed the 1955 SP update file. Still had to make Gary's suggested changes to the E7 .eng file to get things to work right. The PA2 units still will not get up to speed on the flatter grade tracks. Is there adjustments that need to made to the PA2 or PB2 .eng files to fix this problem.
By the way, I meant to send my congratulations to you for the great work that was done on creating my favorite passenger train. Other so-called Daylight consists usually are not as extensive as the one you created. Curious question - does use your consist work with GS4 4-8-4 steam locomotives available from download sites?

Hi

The consist should be fine with any locomotive - they are "just" MSTS wag files. They would look great behind a Daylight painted GS4.
