|
|
I just recently bought one of the SD9 packs, which much to my surprise included some SD9's dressed up in modern BNSF colors.
Personally, I have always loved seeing old engines that survived well past when they were expected to, and also odd engines that weren't made in big numbers.
If you're willing to take suggestions for future releases, there are several here I'd gladly purchase, and I think it's almost enough to perhaps put together a "BNSF Retro Pack", if you will?
BNSF has (or had) several EMD GP9 locomotives that survived long enough to be repainted in their new paint-scheme.
Examples:
BNSF 1600 was one of serveral low-nose GP9 variants that survived on the roster until at least 2010:

There were other low-nose GP9 variants that survived for quite a while with new paint. Some ex-ATSF GP7U
BNSF 1604 survived in new paint as a high-nose GP9 until at least around 2000:

BNSF 1685 also survived as a high-nose non-dynamic GP9 until around 2004:

They would also roster four GP9B models for a while. BNSF 1700 was the only B unit to be repainted, and was kept in service until some time after 2010:

The SD9 pack included three high-nose SD9s. BNSF also rostered a bunch of low-nose SD9s that I suspect were cut down during rebuilds. One of them, BNSF 1550, was called an SD9-3 and was in service until at least 2018, although out of service some time in 2019:

I don't know if there is already a GP7U/GP9U 3D model, but if so, several former ATSF GP7U's and 9U's, with and without dynamic brakes, survived into the 2000's in new BNSF paint.
Also, speaking of "B" units, I just got the Penn Central GP9s with another package. They look great, and when I went to put together some consists for activities I found an absolutely terrible looking Penn Central GP9B in my collection that I got years ago.
Is there any chance we could get a Penn Central GP9B? I know they had several, and given the rare oddball nature of those locomotives I always think it's interesting to throw them in every now and then. |

Oh, if you'll pardon me, but while I'm on the subject...I don't know that there have been any GP10's released yet, but there was at least one GP10 that survived long enough to be painted up in BNSF colors.

Sounds good!
For some reason, the thought of an A-B-A set of "old school" GP9s hauling freight in modern BNSF colors is entertaining to me.
Sadly I don't think they ever brought their older units together. |
