One of the great passenger rail historians has passed away. We have used his authoritative website of passenger equipment photos in much of our work. He will be missed.

Sad news Rick and it raises the issue that as none of us get younger, who will support, preserve or maintain such excellent sources of information in the future?

With a bookcase full of out of print railway books there'll always be a source of secondhand books but when we die who'll maintain our virtual sites Confused

Most countries have a National Library to preserve our printed heritage but who is protecting these invaluable web sources?

Haven't cruised your site in a while Gaetan and noticed this thread.

Such a good question. I for one am doing what I can to plan for succession for the the DARDPI.ca, HSWDPI.ca sites. They have been converted to virtual machines (VMWare) so that they can be resurrected on any elses equipment.

At the same time, I have created a web site for failing Nova Scotia History sites that of course have railway related info. It's called NSHDPI.ca

I would take on any other failing sites of railfan interest should the opportunity arise.

By the way, I just tested passcarphotos.info and its already gone. A quick search on the domain name and discovered someone else preserved it at:
http://passcarphotos.rypn.org/

It's also "backed up" at the internet archives:
