This activity uses the GN freight pack 2 in which the player con uses FA2 diesels. When I click on this activty, MSTS crashes. The Gn freight pack has the patch installed along with the alco sound mods. I finally figured out that the lead engine, lets say FA2 277B, is substituted with say a GP9, the activity runs. Place another engine from the same FA2 pack in the lead spot and MSTS crashes. Now I have no other problems. Route Riter and Conbuilder are happy with no errors. The GN-hiline 3 route works fine with other activities. One more thing, everything is ok if I run the same player con in explore mode. I reinstalled the freight pack and the alco sound mod but did not install the patch. Using the FA2 277B as the lead engine, now I can run the activity. The latest Bin is installed and the GN-Hiline and the allegheny route are the only routes that are installed in MSTS. I run these two routes as mini routes. Geatan, if you find an answer, let me know. The patch must fix something but I am not sure what. You send me a notification or I see an update on this forum and I just download and install the patches. It was interesting to say the least.

Hello Denis
FOUND THE CAUSE! (I think)
In the .eng file, find the "Name" line near the end of the file.
Delete the damn "#" character. It's probably being handled as a Comment start and causing the crash.
I can now at least select that activity without the instant crash before I even press the Start button.

Hi Gaetan
What I found here in my FA eng files was a "#" character in front of the number.
I had: Name ( "BLW/ZT FA2 GN #277A (EB)" )
Removing the "#" solved the crash that happened as soon as I clicked the name of the activity, before I had a chance to press the Start button.
The FB files did have the Name line but no "#" character.
Strangely, the same consist would run fine in explore mode. I also tried a test activity and those locos would not run in an activity. It's quite possible that with my mini route setup the patch/update didn't get to all my locos.

Sorry I took so long to respond. Long day yesterday and work this morning. Removing the # sign makes no difference. The # sign also exists on the diesels that are not updated with the patch and they work just fine. Installing just the GN Freight pack 2 along with the Alco sound updates gives me no problems. If I apply the patch to Freight pack, the Alco sound update is removed because the eng files have been overwritten but MSTS crashes. Removing the # sign does not help. By the way this problem is only when using one of the FA2 engines in the lead spot. An FA2 in the second spot has no affect along with running the activity in explore mode has no effect. If I replace the first FA2 with say an F7 or an RS3 from the same pack, all is well. Anyone that does not add the patch will have no problem and anyone also adding the Alco sound update will have no problem. Beats me. Thanks

Tell me if I am right or wrong. The original FA2 works fine. Call this eng file1. Now add the patch. We have eng file2. Now add the Alco update. WE have eng file3. Is eng file2 the same as eng file3 but with a different sms file? Lets go back to the beginning. We install the original FA2 and only add the ALCO sounds which works with the activity. We start with eng file1 and go eng file3. This works fine with the activity. If you follow the logic, eng file3 has the new sms file but also has the update of eng file2 and this works fine. Is it that I am missing something about the patch and the eng file2?

The alco sound pack use the same eng file of the GN freight update except for the sms
and the 277A is the same eng file of the 277B

I see you made some changes to the GN freight update as I see a new date on the forum title. Can you tell what this is about and will it help with my problem? This is not a big deal as I can run the activity without the GN update. Thanks
