Now there's a loco just crying out for a rebuild and photoskin!
The GG1
Also the other Pennsy electrics would make for a "must have" set too?
How about it guys?

Thanks for the link Uli. Missed that one.
The models look OK but the textures need a lot of work IMHO. That Hi Gloss finish is really not very good. I've been reskinning a lot of locomotives for a UK route soon to be released on UKTS and as it's a freeware route we've assembled stock from many authors. Removing the gloss finish using Shape File Manager showed that in many cases this finish actually ruined otherwise excellent skins.
The other reason I mentioned photoskins for the GG1's is that it is about the only way of getting near the visual effect that these large "flat" (usually anything but flat ) panelled loco's actually have.
I recently bought a second hand copy of "The Remarkable GG1" by Karl R Zimmermann which is a gem of a book on these truly remarkable Locos. The photos are all black and white but it shows just just how many liveries these locos carried in their long and hard working career. Like the latest PRR pack here they soon lost their "ex works" gloss, became weathered and picked up some marking. Chucks original model was pretty good but it's areas such as texturing and skins that have really developed.
Still I appreciate that the thread was a work in progress. If the models good and the .aces are well thought out it will be a reskinners dream? _________________ Geoff |
