Hello Rick. I don't know if I am in the right area of the forum to request engine sets and equipment but I would like to request a Clinchfield set. There is the CSX Blueridge and Kingsport Subs for MSTS and your engines and equipment would look good on those 2 routes. Those are old Clinchfield lines which are now CSX.

Hi Scott,

I have been accused (recently, in fact), of having too much on my plate. I have five sets in work at the moment, so when you asked about a potential SIXTH set, you know what my answer would be, right?

SURE!

Based on some quick research (railpictures and thedieselshop), and knowing what Gaetan and I have available, the set will be relatively small, with EMD F units and GPs in the yellow and grey scheme, plus freight cars, circa 1970. Would that work for you? Also, if you could check out the routes you referenced, and let me know what connecting RRs are part of the route, I could probably include some of their stock as well (again, circa 1970).

I couldn't do anything more recent, it would involve models we don't have (2nd gen EMD, GE, etc).

Let me know what you think..

Thanks

RGF

The CSX Blueridge and Kingsport Subs are continuous. Where one ends the next one begins. That happens at Erwin. Any other railroads that I know of that comes into the Clinchfield at the time was the Southern Railway and the Norfolk & Western which merged to make the Norfolk Southern. But back in the 1960s and 1970s it was still Clinchfield and Southern and Norfolk & Western. You know today they are CSX and NS. That is all the information that I know of. What you said what would be in the pack would be fine but Clinchfield had more than one paint scheme. Not only the grey and yellow but they also had black and yellow. Go to 3Dtrains.com to see come of Chip's stuff to see some of the paint schemes. They are payware on his site.

Clinchfield ended on the Southern at Spartanburg SC. All the way north, it crossed SOU at several spots including Forest City and Marion NC, Kingsport TN, and some spots in VA. SCL (SAL) joined it at Bostic NC. I believe there may have been a junction with the L&N, but I don't know for sure, It ended at Elkhorn City, KY meeting the C&O there.

The gray and yellow scheme kept up until SCL gained a controlling interest and the locomotives became yellow and black w/yellow number boards.

I lived in Shelby NC along the SCL (SAL) Charlotte Sub from Bostic to Charlotte NC. It was nothing to see a few Clinchfield coal trains motoring through in either direction during the day.

I saw the black and yellow. I was shying away from that because that would definitely be after the arrival of the GP38s, SD40s and GEs.

If you're OK with those units missing, I could do some black & yellow. This will also allow me to do a few SOU and N&W, too. See, I told you I always bite off more than I can chew!!

Steve/Scott, which of these roads (SOU, SAL, N&W, C&O) are represented in the existing MSTS routes?

Rick

All 4 of them are represented. I would like some GP38s done. Some with High Hood if you want to. You can leave out the SD40s and 40-2s because they are too modern for you I guess. I have seen you do some GP18s but not many. But what about some GP20s and GP30s? Would you consider doing those Geeps? I would like to see some GP9 Clinchfield engines too. Maybe a SD7 or SD9 or 2 mixed in. It is just a thought.

Just as a reference, the GP38/SD38 was sold along side the GP40/SD40 and the GP38-2/SD38-2 along side the GP40-2/SD40-2 (along with the respective SD45 and SD45-2.)

I firmly SECOND that idea, ESPECIALLY with the Routes in question.

Great idea, guys.

Right now, I am working on PRR 1950. I also have a B&M 1955 set and Erie-DL&W 1955 set started, plus a few other projects. Clinchfield is on the list as well, I just don't know when. I don't have the time I used to have. It is now taking me 6 months to a year to complete a set.

Thanks for understanding.

Rick

I'm reluctant to jump into this discussion, being that you guys have so much in the works right now, but...

Along similar lines, have you guys thought about doing the CSX F units (116, 117, 118, 199)? Perhaps the preceeding Seaboard System scheme as well? I believe these units were originally Clinchfield units as well, so perhaps the four of them in each of their liveries (CRR, SBD, CSX)?
