Hi All-
At sometime between 1979 and 1984 during which the Rock Island ceased operations in 1980, the bankruptcy trustees leased a pair of Geep 7's (Long Nose Forward's) from the Monogahela Railway. These were originally built for the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie. Prior to coming to the Rock Island, these units were leased to the North Central Texas.

As you can see, one was repainted and one was not. I am assuming that these Geeps were used to assemble and deliver The Rock's ghost trains to their new owners as those assets were sold off.

This was, I believe, the only unit to receive this hybred "ROCK" paint scheme.

So, here I am playing around, still thinking I can do re-paints Rolling Eyes
Seriously, these re-paints are based on pictures at "Jeff's Guide to the Rock Island Lines" website http://www.rockisl.com/
The cab side Rock Island logo's are also from that site, free to use clip art.

Take Care-
Dave

Dave,

Nice job. What can you tell me about 1502? The number font looks like NYC...

Monongahela 1502 nee P&LE 5724 / P&LE 1513

As I understand it, the Monongahela Railway was a (1/3) subsidiary of the P&LE (along with the PRR & the B&O). And the P&LE itself was a subsidiary of the New York Central System.
The Monongahela disappeared into Conrail (the CSX half).
So, to answer you, Yes, it is NYC.

The actual font that I used is called LilyUPC, Bold and 33pts, done as a seperate 82x22 .bmp file. I painted out the flag on the "1" then re-sized the file to 81x17, pasted and blended, etc. onto the image file. I think its pretty close.

Oh, and Monongahela 1504 nee P&LE 5716 / P&LE 1520

Here are some pictures of the actual units:
As The Rock Island-
1502-
http://www.rockisl.com/cgi-bin/display.asp?f=1&e=1&n=204
1504-
http://www.rockisl.com/cgi-bin/display.asp?f=1&e=1&n=196

As the Monongahela- (a sister unit)
http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/mcrr/mga1508tga.jpg
If you look closely at the sill, there is an "F" at the long nose and a "2" on the short end.

And the P&LE- (sister unit)
http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/ple/ple1514n.jpg
Again the "F" and "2" on the sill

Part of my enjoyment of trying these re-paints is the research.
Anyway, Thanks for the compliments Laughing

That speaks volumes, Dave. I know more about the Monon now than anyone not part of the Monon Historical Society. Rolling Eyes

The more you learn in the research, the more you want to learn.
