After years and years of hemming and hawing about it, I finally decided to try my hand at re-painting. So I dug out my ancient copy of ArcSoft PhotoStudio (2000) and bent on a simple repaint project of the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railway which in 1956 became the Monon.

Just a bit of cut and paste, and a little blending, and here we have a Freight set as it might have been prior to '56. But if you are into the varnish then here is a Passenger unit as it was-

Really all I added was the reporting mark on the rump (I see I forgot the period after the L), gold pinstripping and the light grey roof. I couldn't quite get the original dark roof to lighten up enough, so I ended up grafting the roof of the freeware L&N F9 unit and lightening it up a liitle. An L&N roof on a Monon unit? I hope that isn't too ominous of what was to come.

The thing about the Monon was that they took very good care of their equipment. They had "The Shops" in Lafayette and were able to keep these F-Units going for over 20+ years. That means, in part, that it is hard to model a specific unit because every time one came out of the shop, it sported a slightly different variation paint scheme and configuration. These repaints are basically me just trying it out and aren't suppose to be actual representations of the real thing. 64A was one of the units destroyed in the Ash Grove head-on in 1947 and was replaced with a newer unit, same number.

What I couldn't figure out was how to "Alpha Out" things like the radio antenna (not until 1959 or so). Or if it can even be done. It would be nice to also lose the grab rail above the cab and the ladder rest on the nose.

Anyway, there it is-

Dave,

Excellent work! If you send me the skins, I will release them without grabs and radio as a bonus to the Monon set.

I'll even throw in some matching RS2s

Be sure to ask Gaetan how he's doing with the BL2 Laughing

Rick
