Just asking why the blunt end observation lounge car instead of the round end car?I used to ride from Jacksonville Fl to NYC on both ACL and SCL than Amtrak and they always had a round end observation car. That was from appx 1964 up to 1975.

Jeff,

I was working from 1974 Amtrak consist books that included only a classification for the cars (3300 series buffet-lounge-observation). Without any more guidance than that, I included a buffet-lounge-observation that I assumed would have been available on the east coast (ex PRR/PC).

Do you remember the name/number of the obs you would have seen? I'd be happy to make a replacement.

RGF

RGF,
Does this help?
SCL 5842
(ex-SAL 6602) Budd tavern - lounge observation
Rolling Stock: SCL 5842 (Passenger Car)

I have a picture of it but the forum will not let me up load it.

Always?

As an SCL operation the Silver Meteor had the round back obs. The Champion had a square back obs nested back in the consist. The Star did not have an obs.

As an Amtrak operation the Meteor kept its round back obs for a while, and the Champion also had one breifly.

That's based on having ridden the Florida trains several times yearly, and on several volumes of reference material.

There was one time that we took the Silver Metor to NYC from JAX and we had 2 bedrooms in a Dome car now that was fun as a kid.

Hi Jeff,

Just to clarify this, I went back and checked my research. Amtrak obs/buffet/lounge #3335 was originally ACL 257, then SCL 5836. It was used mid-train on the Silver Star for many years.

David Carleton has provided me with plans for the SAL round end observation cars that were used on the SAL/SCL Florida trains. I will add one to this set as a bonus.

Thanks

Rick

OK. I have a month or so left on the Monon set, plus the Reading set. I will get to SAL/SCL before the winter is out.
