Only one of the prettiest paint schemes in all railroading! It is an old KCS passenger scheme brought back just like the Santa Fes red & silver. Infact, the same man brought BOTH schemes back from the dead!

One time a friend of mine asked me what color were the KCS coaches as we stood there and looked at them in Kansas City. I said black of course. W R O N G! He said they were dark green. OK, so when you look at them in the sun, they are actually a very dark green. You guys can check this out.

In 1940 the Pullman Company came up with an inexpensive paint scheme for the Southern Belle cars using paints that were readily available. The red and yellow were the same shades as were being used on refrigerator cars. For the base body color they used "Dark Green Enamel", something which Pullman was experimenting with on a few pool sleepers, and which shade is also known as "Brunswick Green". It really is just an enamel base pigmented with copper salt, and is only a shade of green to the extent that a greenish shine escapes from it when exposed to full bright sunlight. In 1940 the beautiful Southern Belle paint scheme cost only $200 additional per car as compared to regular Pullman green.
