First.. thanks for all the great models over the years. I always wanted to tell you that as this is my first post even though I've been signed up for years.
Secondly, and more to the topic at hand, you should upgrade your phpBB to version 3. I too had way too many Spams users over the last year. The sign up security is too weak on phpBB 2 and as a result there are Spam-Bots and scripts that will continue to bombard you until you upgrade to phpBB 3. Once you've upgraded, you won't hear a peep again from the Spammers.
My upgrade went seamlessly.. took less than an hour although you may have a bigger database than me to back up which may take more time unless this is your own local server you run this on.
By the way, if I may make a shameless plug here, feel free to check out my Dominion Atlantic site if you're looking for photos and info about the Dominion Atlantic Railway. http://dardpi.ca
Cheers from out west,

Yes. I actually had 3 forums that I upgraded from version 2 to 3 and never had a problem with any one of them. Let me tell you that the administration pages are way better too than version 2.
Yes, you will keep all your messages, forums and users just the way they are now.
You will need a new theme though so you might take the time to try and find one before you upgrade.
You could always install a test copy of 3 in another directory just to play with it.
You do need to make sure your PHP version is up to date too.
Here's the upgrade page in case you want to read more on the details:

Good luck and remember to back up your files AND your mySQL DB before you upgrade so you can go back if necessary. |
