I have been downloading several passenger coaches from various website and found some highly desirable files. However, a few coaches viewed at farther than point blank distances look as though there are vertical bars across their windows.

What creates this effect? Is there anything that can be done about it? Confused

You have not stated which ones, but i do know that in the case of the via coaches from MLTs Niagara corridor that unless the sim is set to 32 bit colour they show funny weirdness by the windows, if you are running 16 bit colour try 32 bit, if it is not that then it may be that the alpha layers which make the windows see through are not done correctly, if you are noticing this in shape viewer than it probably will not show in the Sim as shape viewer views at 16 bit as far as i have been led to believe.

Greetings,

Being Hungarian-American, lately my interest has been looking for Hungarian routes and rolling stock. This is where I found the "problem set."

Yes, I was using the Shape Viewer when discovering the vertical bars. And yes, they disappeared when I loaded the set into MSTS set at 32 bit! Thanks for the advice.

Ironically, the creater of the set apologized for the "bug," and doesn't seem aware it is a 16 bit only problem.

You saved me from jettisoning off an entire pack of a 3 pack set of passenger cars.

How did so many smart and talented people gather to such an unlikely sim as MSTS?

Thanks!

Steve

Greetings,

While on the subject of passenger cars, there is another curiosity I have come across with a few cars that have detailed interiors.

When looking thru the windows on a few cars, the partitions between passenger compartments are mis-aligned with two compartments incorrectly "sharing" the same window. (The partition is running right down the middle of the window.)

Now when one visually pierces the roof (to view the car's interior detail) by zooming in with shape viewer, these same compartments are all correctly positioned. The partitions between the compartments are now attached to the walls of the car body BETWEEN the windows. But roll the car body around until you see these same compartments from the outside thru the windows and pop!, they are mis-aligned again.

Easy to point see, hard to describe. Forgive my verbosity. Embarassed

Regards,
Steve

The reason for this is that the same sleeper shape is used for multiple models. The interior, which may match a 10-6 sleeper, for example, will not match a 22 roomette slumber coach.

Lately, I've made sure that the interior view in the wag file is at a location where there is one full window. From the outside, you would have to be looking very closely at a sleeper standing still to see the partition problem, probably hard to spot at all with a moving train...

The only other option would be to create custom interiors for every model of coach, sleeper, etc. This would make our sets very expensive.

Rick

Greetings,

Thaks for the heads up on the use of limited selection interiors.

I just found it very curious that all is aligned properly (with the windows) when looking at the interior from inside the car, but not outside. Thought it must be a glitch in the ace file.

Regards,
Steve
