Few guys like to see roof fans rotate
Two way for put the fans in rotation
1st is with wiper fonction, when you hit the V key the fan rotate but not fast and is only on the lead engine
2nd is with wheels functions, fan rotation follow the speed of engine(s) and don't rotate when your are stop
3th if anybody have another solution ?
I can produce patch for my all my Geep's packs but only if enough guys like that
Don't forget i need to update 71 engine shapes
My poll today is rotate or not _________________ Gaetan

Gaetan,
In all honesty, to me the rotation of the fans are just eye candy. When I am busy running a train or switching I don't have time to worry about whether the fans are rotating or not. MY full attention is focused on the job at hand. Even when taking pictures the rotation of the fans is not that important to me.

I agree with Paul, just eye candy. You can't see them 99% of the time anyway. _________________ Patrick Putnam

Hello Gaetan, glad to see, that some engineers at this forum wish functional fans now. :D Why don't the others? Busy with switching and braking and ....
But don't forget the temperature of the diesel cylinders! - very soon overheated or even glowing without fans ... the good old diesels wouldn't roar and exhaust any longer!
Greetings

Personally, I could care less if the fans rotated. As mentioned, it's only eye-candy, and even if you're taking screen-shots, no one can tell the difference. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like, with locomotives that have rotating fan-blades, the FPS drops be a couple points... _________________ Thom |

Rotating fans are unnecessary.
Not all the fans rotate all the time anyway.
Look at it this way:
Under what circumstances can you see the fans rotate on a real locomotive?
Under what circumstances can you see the fans rotate on a model?
Why not make the prime mover and generator rotate as well? After all, they are rotating all the time!

Agreed, it's only eye-candy for me. I always sitting in the cab when I driving, not on the roof or in a chopper... |

Having spent a long time looking in detail at Gaetan's engines, I have to admit that I have, on the odd occassion, noticed the non rotating fans. But then the handles don't turn, the doors don't open, the air hoses don't join .....
What is most noticeable about the new Geeps, is that the grills have an alpha channel - and that is visually more important than any rotating fans.
I assume the rotating fans would come with a framerate hit also. If that was acceptable, what I would rather see is an optional engineer inside the cab - one that could be switched out for trailing units etc., but that is a whole new poll.
Also, thinking of Gaetan's next secret project - I would rather see that going forward than Gaetan spend time updating 71 engines!

Hi all, Happy Thanksgiving Day to fellow Canadians...
My humble opinion.
Yes, we don't see them all the time.
Yes, not all rotate all the time. They also don't always rotate at the same speed.
A premiere way of modeling fans. One (or more) rotating with wheels and one (or more) wiper controlled or even better, rotating when dynamics are being used. I don't know if that could be accomplished; if it could be accomplished, it would be the ones cooling the dynamic resistor packs of course.

As a modeler myself, I've used rotating fans for a long time now. When incorporated into the original model they're not much of a chore but I can imagine that adding them to an older model will require much work, probably more than it's worth. It's only noticeable in outside views so for those who remain in the cab it's no big deal but I, for one, do a lot of mainline running and I've found that I like to look from the outside often and non turning fans are disconcerting. It's up to Gaetan and truly for most of his work it would be gilding the lily on already beautiful work but in the future it might be a worthwhile addition. |

Why not both?
Could you offer a patch, update or bonus that could be applied by those who want it and not by those who don't?
Makes sense to me

Greetings,
I am rather new here and don't really have the seniority to chime in on this issue of rotating fans.
But for me, it is an issue of those small details that make the measure between a good copy and a fine recreation. And those littlest details that one discovers only over time are the most gratifying of all. For me, it is indicative of the builder's commitment to quality, and his pride in workmanship. Going the extra mile as they say. That is when recreation becomes art.
Regards,
Steve |

Hello Gaetan,
I did not vote in the poll because I thought that animated fans were not very important for me.
Now that I have installed the roto fan upgrades for the two Western packs I must say that the animated fans are not only the icing on the cake but that the fans and the animation are very well done!
(Don't care about the animated wipers. Even with models that have them I always forget to switch them on. )
