Hi all,

I have two questions about the 1957 Empire route.
First, i have changed the part4 and part5 of the Empire Builder activity set from Rick for the Whitefish4 Route to Whitefish9 beta. I have seen the train didnt stop in Libby, but stop in Troy. The acutally 2010 timetable have just one stop in Libby,MT. Are you sure the train didnt stop in Libby in 1957? Maybe someone have a link to the old timetable, i didnt found one..

and the second question,
i have seen the La Crosse division route at train-sim.com. The route sleeped there since 2003. The unfinished route goes from Portage to Milwaukee in Wisconsin. Thats also a part of the EB. Does anyone know more about the route?

cheers Michael

The EB did not stop in Libby according to the Oct 28, 1969 TT.

Portage to Milwaukee was never part of the EB prior to Amtrak. It was the route of the Milwaukee Road Hiawathas, Chicago-Milwaukee-Mpls/St.Paul

Further investigation shows the EB did not stop at Libby in 1947, nor in 1954 (JUNE). The Western Star did make a stop at Libby in some of these years.

Just a FYI on the GN Empire Builder route. From St. Paul to Chicago, the GN sent the Empire Builder over the CB&Q line down along the Missisippi river down to about East Dubuque IL then turned East to Chicago. The route DID run on the Wisconsin side of the river where Amtrak now uses the old Milw Rd (now the CP) line on the MN side of the river to La Cross where it crosses over the river then runs East/Southeast to Milaukee then South from there to Chicago. There are areas on the Missisippi River where a person could sit in a boat and watch countless trains running on both sides of the river many years ago. The CB&Q line ran the GN, NP and CB&Q passenger trains up from Chicago to St. Paul where from there the GN and NP took their respective lines out of Union Depot to Minneapolis, then westwards. Got to love those Hill Lines trains Razz Rocky
