This is my first post here and I would like to thank the ValleyPass Club for allowing me to participate in their forum. I was hoping to start with the Seaboard Air Line route from TrainSim.com library but find there are seven different SAL downloads to choose from and puzzled as to which one to select. Perhaps there is a less confusing download available elsewhere. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

First of - welcome aboard.

The SAL route at Train-Sim is easy to install. There are 2 ways to download. A full version - salflall.zip ( The entire route in one download. The way to go if you have high speed/broadband internet. This file is about 120MB.

Or go the 4 download route, which is one zip file and 3 in the spanned format. The advantage is smaller downloads, but 4 files in spanned zip format. Better if you have dial up.

The SAL route is one of the better routes.

Also note that two rollling stock packs, compiled by Steve Davis, are available at the trainsim file library. Both are needed in order to have a wide variety of stock. Note, however, that many of these models are older, and may not hold up well vs. the newer packs, like Gaetan's upcoming SAL pack.

I suggest that you check ALL rolling stock (cars and locos), whether freeware or payware, with ConBuilder for missing files, BBoxdit to correct bounding boxes, and Route Riter in order to easily install improved physics. This is particularly important for older items.

I appreciate all replies and suggestions to my post. I have now been able to successfully download the full SAL route file and the other required files as suggested.

However, prior to installing anything new, I've decided to delete MSTS and make a clean install. Although my XP has been recently updated, it was dormant for a couple of years. Now I can start out fresh knowing possible future errors will be minimal and perhaps, even my mistake. Fortunately, my interests lie with trains and vintage programs like MSTS and is less problematic than others.

I know I shall enjoy my association with the ValleyPass Club and looking forward to returning my gratitude in the near future.
