Here's one that might be a fun mini-set.
The Rock Island ran commuter service in and around Chicago and here is their "Jet Rocket" Aerotrain that ran from about the late 1950's to the mid-1960's:

As I understand it, one is on display in Green Bay, WI., and one is in St. Louis

I would love to see that one too. When I was in HO I had a dummy Aerotrain set that Varney had put out many years ago. I stuck a power unit in it from an old Athearn SW switcher and it ran very good. My fingers are crossed. |

As I understand it, the coaches were actually bus bodies converted for rail use.
Frank Musick (http://home.comcast.net/~kelticsylk/) has got one underway, not sure when/if he plans to complete it.
