Hi Gaeten,
Been a fan and member from back from your old Valley Pass days... I've purchased several of your payware packages and I am very happy with them...
One question - would you consider adding LOD's to you freight cars ??? They look great and I realize our computers are much faster than they used to be - however - when running long freights there does seem to be a substantial frame rate hit compared to models that use them...
Anyway - just a suggestion... Your Maybrook set is probably my favorite pulling Anthracite on Rich's 1940's L&HR...
Keep up the good work...
Regards,
Scott |

I'd be interested in some tests on this. Is it LOD's that are making things smoother?
The trouble is that sets with too many LODs look really awful as with long consists you get distinct "blocks" where each LOD occurs. With long US/Canadian consists this would be very obvious.
Since the BIN patch allows such dramatic zooms now you can end up with a great wideangled view only to have sections of your train either vanish or "pop up" in the view.
I have to say I've spent quite a bit of time REMOVING LODs .....but then UK consists are much shorter
The trouble is that frame rates vary from route to route and in differing areas of that route AND in different weather conditions. It's very difficult to do an objective test with and without and cover all factors

The problem not come anytime from LOD
The photo textures, many polys and route is the the problem for poor frame rate
since i have my Dualcore E8400 3gig and EVGA GTX260 all my low frame rate is disappear anywhere _________________ Gaetan

I have to say my new box with similar specs has finally cured that too Gaetan, but many struggle with older machines still. I have to agree that in my experience LODs seem to make no difference. In the UK and europe we have routes with much more AI traffic (hard on Nth America's single line routes ) and although we don't have long consists we'll often have 3 or 4 trains in shot at one time. When tiles in a route become near their limit and there is a lot of traffic then things can slow down or even crash the sim.
The bad news is that the minimum spec for MSTS is way out of date.
The good news is that MSTS is many times better than the original. Having just reinstalled on a new machine the default sim looks AWFUL now.
