Just purchased the B&O pack - models are great
Have a problem - the locos seem severely underpowered - the best I can get
with 2 E8's and 9 cars on the flat RF&P is 50mph - the three L&N (promos)
even worse 28MPH with 18 freight cars.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Warren

Open up the eng file, scroll down and find numwheels. Change the value to 4. Do this for the A and B units. This affects how the calculated power is applied. The higher the num wheels, the lower the power for that engine. Numwheels setting has nothing to do with the actual number of wheels on the engine. General consensus on other forums is a setting of 4 is the optimum choice. I redid all my eng files that have something other than 4, and can run a similar consist as yours on the CR Indy line at nearly 90mph. Hope this helps.

Engine 100% applied explains the apparent lack of power.

I assume you have used the "[" key which doesn't release them and that you are using a normal US layout keyboard.

More info needed. The key functions are not part of an eng file but are defined in a common file used by all Diesel engines. I've glanced at one of the E8's (E9A_BO_1454.eng) and it has the needed info, Type ( Engine) and Type (Diesel ) which should trigger the correct key actions.

We need a test done. Pick one of the E8's - about 80% into the eng file that you picked, find "Brake_Engine ( 0 1 0.0250 1" and change the final "1" into a "0" to see if that lets the loco start with loco brakes released; if not there is something else wrong.

If that does lets the loco start with the engine brakes released, try one of the original MSTS locos to see if the loco brake applies and releases. If not, you probably have a MSTS setup problem rather than a BLW "loco" problem.

Thanks - everything working fine now - just not accustomed to starting with both train and engine brake set.
