Yep....

When I initially posted, there were two identical posts for some reason. When I deleted the extra post, it deleted the pictures on both posts!!

I won't be back on MSTS until late tonight or tomorrow. Until then, here's a video:

Hi Uli!

The Washington Union Passenger Terminal in Washington DC had a fleet of 25 Alco RS1s, third most of any US railroad. I believed the WT was jointly owned by the railroads that called on the terminal. The RS1s kept their blue/white paint scheme well into the Amtrak era, I took photos of them in 1975-76 still in blue.

Based on that, they would be at home on the PRR-ER and the NEC 4 from the late 1940s through the late 1970s. At some point in the late 1970's they were repainted to the phase II Amtrak scheme.

I think the Blue paint came about in the 60's. The WUPT was jointly owned by the B&O and PRR. The presidency of the line alternated between the presidents of the 2 railroads. When the PRR held the office, the engines were generally painted black. When it was B&O's tirn, back to a darker blue. I don't know when that started, nor how often the repainting happened. Most photos from those earlier times are B&W, so hard to tell.

Thanks Glenn,

I have seen one photo of an RS1 in PRR colors. The B&O Royal Blue version uses the PRR style font, which is an interesting compromise!! Confused

And let me correct myself. The PRR and B&O owned the Washinton Terminal RR 50/50, not the entire Union Station itself. That was shared amongst the railroads using it, though I'm not sure of the percentages of ownership.
