In the 1950s - 1960s, the New Haven Railroad was a pioneer in piggyback service. They teamed up with the PRR and L&HR to provide competitive TOFC service between Boston and Chicago via the Maybrook route. Thanks to Rich Shirey and his L&HR 1940 route, I can relive this service!
If you don't already have this route, it is now available at train-sim.com (1940_lhr.zip).
==============================================
L&HR and PRR power wait for the PRR 'TrucTrain' at Martins Creek yard on the PRR Bel-Del branch.
... and here it is, behind an A-B-A set of PRR F7s ...
... swap cabooses, swap power ...
... wait for the line to clear ...
... then head off to Maybrook.
Oh, by the way. Here's what happens if you DON'T wait for traffic to clear...
