Hey all,

I recently bought the ALCO sound pack and it's absolutely great!

But today I tried the RS-11 sound and encountered a problem: When going from idle to notch 1 the external engine windup sound can barely be heard. Inside the cab it sounds OK but outside it's like the engine takes a break. I looked up the sms file but wasn't able to find any problems. The code for the windup sound is the same as for the C-420 and that one works fine.

I'm using MSTSBin 1.7.0519.

I replaced the RS-11 windup file with the C-420 file and it also played too quiet. Editing the volume line hasn't changed anything.
Anyone else having this problem or maybe an idea what might be wrong?

Thanks!

Some additional information:
I tried the sound with another engine - same problem. I tried using a plain MSTS 1.2 installation - same problem, so it's obviously not the MSTSBin update. The RS-2 sounds have the same problem. Could it possibly be that the variable_trigger commands of the notch1 and windup sounds conflict? That's what the RS-2 and RS-11 sms files have in common.

Any ideas?

Hi Jan,

Glad you like the soundpack Very Happy
Let's try to solve your problem - the windup sound should work as advertised ( notice the S2 currently has no windup ).
Let's focus on the RS11 (I assume you are an advanced user).
First thing coming to mind is the possibility that the engine you are running is an AI or that the sound is somehow referenced to to the "RS11engAI.sms." That sound is quieter than the sound of the lead loco. Check that one out.
Also, have you tried to reinstall the BLW soundpack afresh to see if that makes any difference ?

If your windup sound doesn't work after all this I suggest you send the following files to Gaetan, so I can have a look at it:

RS11eng.sms
x_windup.wav
x_idle.wav
x_notch1.wav

You will find these files in your common.snd/BLW/Alco/RS11 folder

succes,

Frits

Hi Jan,

I tested your files and they are okay so it's very unlikely it has something to do with the BLW soundpack ( FYI we did not have any of the customers reporting this problem sofar) . Did you follow my advise above ?
The problem could be related, somehow, to your sound system setup. I, for myself, noticed that my speaker 5.1 surround settings caused completely silencing of forward headout view and sound anomalies when panning outside the locomotive. I solved that problem by changing back to speaker 2.1 setup.
See if that helps

Regards,

Frits

Thank you for your reply.

I followed your advise above, I checked the references and reinstalled the pack. Seems like it really has something to do with my sound system. I'll see if I can find out something!

Thanks again for your efforts.
