CN locos and rolling stock

The Great Lakes & Allegheny Virtual Railroad are seriously considering adding the Quebec-Charlevoix route to the MLT Canadian routes currently used. Please look us up at http://bison-rail.com/VR

The reason for this post though is that I would like to check out all CN and other eastern Canada railroad equipment - locos, wagons, carriages, MOW and so on. I have, naturally, already done a search at www.train-sim.com for "CN" If you know of any other MSTS1 equipment please list below or at the thread similar to this at GL&A.

I just purchased BLW's fine CN livery, as well as the VIA power and cars and RDC's. They are truely great models, and with the fine additional Alco sound pack - it makes them that much better. Smile

Then there's Maple Leaf Tracks ( www.mapleleaftracks.com ) which also makes and sells great VIA and CN loco's and the Niagara Corridor route. As for Train-Sim, I would definately recommend the HR series of CN GP38's, and SD60's. These are some of the FINEST free models a CN fan could have. Other than that, a general SEARCH using 'Canadian' and/or 'CN' can prove a bountiful reward. As a rule of thumb, I would tend to select and download models 'sooner' than ''later' in dates created. Creators tend to have gotten better over the years, if you know what I mean. Wink

Thank you both very much. Please come by GL&A in a few weeks when we have set up Quebec-Charlevoix and our senior members have started writing new activities for it. I should, of course, have also mentioned we are looking for any activities written for Q-C!! If any of you wish to run more activities for the Canadian MLT routes then we have a free library. Membership of GL&A and associate Virtual Railroads Bison and Southern Cross is free.

Great Lakes and Allegheny Virtual Railroad shares a new forum website with Bison Virtual and Southern Cross Virtual. The old site is dead except for putting in activity completion slips. Try http://bison-rail.com/VR if this doesn't work then admin emails are dandy1@ccaonline.com or hrd@bison-rail.com There are 7 different VRs altogether, others are Ohio Rail (does east & south USA routes), P&A (north & west), Cascades and North Western (their own very complex route), and VNERR (was largest now quieter, but still alive, includes Longueil and other non-USA routes). GL&A does Maple Leaf Tracks routes and a few others according to demand, Bison deliberately has no theme, Southern Cross southern hemisphere routes. There have been UK and German VRs, but not currently. VRs work by members writing and running activities. There are internal courses and training for members. Currently Ohio is very active with new routes stimulating a burst of activity writing.

Thanks Jane, I'm off to check those links out. I never really grasped the whole 'virtual railroading' thing before. There was a CN 'VR' that emerged shortly after MSTS was released some 7 years ago that I quickly joined. But nothing ever materialised there? But it sounds like you and your co-horts are definately active and serious with all these links you've supplied. I can't say I can be 'that' commited, with work and all. But I'll definately see if I can contribute some small participation. Wink

Most members just run the activities written those who have done the courses. There are 100s of acts in the VR libraries across many routes. Some routes are not covered as sidings are too few and short or they have never found a champion who starts writing acts for it.... VRs do other things, I retex steamers for instance, some members just use it as a club with the forum to solve tech problems or keep up to date on developments... To answer your question I only came to MSTS 2 years ago so don't remember a CN VR. There are non-Maple Leaf routes at TS.com, but I would like to know of others (like Quebec-Charlevoix) available elsewhere. A similar situation applies to CN rolling stock. I have CN on my To Do List with a series of 12 steamers to tex thus providing a fleet for activity writers. I would appreciate any readers of this post who know of a color photo or plans or really good B&W photo of a non-CN or non-CP Canadian steamer to post a link here or at GL&A. Its good to have an ai train from a different railroad with different livery present at a point on a route.
